The ALA-SC is the Indiana University student chapter of the American Library Association. In addition to providing a link to this professional organization, we strive to provide the students in the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at Indiana University with a variety of beneficial activities. We have two main goals: to promote a sense of community within our organization and SLIS itself, and to support the professional goals of our members. We try to promote a sense of community by reaching out to as many of the incoming students as possible and encouraging returning students to continue to participate in our organization. To this end, at the beginning of each semester we have a popular Meet N' Greet, where SLIS students have the opportunity to mingle and learn about the ALA-SC. We also provide a variety of social activities, such as hikes, movie nights, bowling, etc. Some of the activities we provide to help support the professional goals of our members include our mentoring program, co-sponsorship of a Career Forum with Beta Phi Mu, tours of local libraries, and job talks by local library professionals. We feel these activities make us a strong presence in SLIS, and we are always trying to find new ways to reach our members. One last thing. In case you've been wondering about the logo of this website, the lizard symbolizes the "slizzards" of SLIS. |
