2009 Executive Council President
Caitlin Bagley
I received my B.A. in English and Classics from the University of Kentucky in 2007, and then worked for a year as the Circulation/Reserves Coordinator at a small theological library in Lexington, Ky. I'm interested in library management and administration, and I currently work at the Wylie House as an office assistant translating the diaries of Theophilus Wylie.
Vice President
Erin Rykken
Erin is currently pursuing her MLS at IUB. She received her B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin—Green Bay in 2000 and her M.A. in English Literature from Boise State University in 2004. Her previous work experience includes teaching everyone’s favorite required college composition class, managing the volunteer program for a non-profit agency, and building trails with the Montana Conservation Corps. Erin plans to focus her current studies on undergraduate reference services—and is looking forward to work as a Reference Assistant and as the Graduate Assistant to the Faculty Council Office this spring. She currently lives in Bloomington with her fantastic dog, Carlo, where she spends her time knitting, doing school, and praying for snow.
Social Chair
Mary Grange
I am a first year MLS student. I am passionate about public libraries and consider the library to be the epicenter of a community. That being said, it is my goal to work in a public library upon graduation. One day, I hope to become a director of a small to medium size public library. As a student, I am enjoying learning how to become a well-rounded librarian and how to best serve patrons. I am confident that the knowledge I gain by being a part of the School of Library and Information Science will effectively prepare me to become professional librarian.
I have several years of experience in a number of other leadership positions, and greatly enjoy being involved. Thus, I am thrilled at the opportunity of working with the ALA-Student Chapter as the elected Social Chair.
Treasurer
Crystal White
Crystal is just finishing First Semester at SLIS. Crystal has been a member of the student chapter of ALA from the beginning of the semester, as well as the national chapter. Currently, she is the treasurer for ASIS&T, and has been a national and student member since the beginning of the year as well. In the past, Crystal has been an officer for many professional, honorary, and student organizations for the past 7 years. In her undergraduate years, Crystal has held an officer position for and been a member of her school's student chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a theater honor society. Crystal loves to be involved and is very organized. She has worked in the technology world, where she has had to handle a lot of responsibility and projects. She is currently employed with the IUB Library as a technology assistant and continues her work ethic. She enjoys juggling everything in her life, including her work. Crystal also enjoys being a help to anyone, especially when the skills she has learned in her life can come in handy.
Crystal is enjoying the community and professional atmosphere of the SLIS program and is looking forward to the rest of her time here. She is working on a dual Master's in Library Science and Information Science. She loves to swing dance and never misses the IUB swing club social dances on Monday nights, even thought she has a class before hand. Crystal also has many other interests and hobbies, among a few is books, movies, tennis, and crocheting.
Secretary
Nick Hughes
Nick has been working in libraries almost consistently for over 7 years and is now pursuing his Masters Degree in Library Science, with Library Administration being his area of interest. In the spring of 2008, he graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a BA in English. His prior leadership experience includes planning and leading many events and groups in the Boy Scouts of America. Currently he resides in Bloomington with his fiancé and fellow SLIS student and their crazy cat, Artemis and works both at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community and the Kent Cooper Room. His interests include reading, gaming, cooking, and photography and is an avid science fiction fan. Eventually, he plans on earning a Doctorate in Public Libraries.
Webmaster
Elizabeth Munson
In a former life, Liz managed the website of a small NGO in Washington, DC; in a life before that, she taught middle school Spanish. Her interests have started to converge at SLIS, where she is pursuing School Media Certification and figuring out how to incorporate the taste she has developed for reference and digital libraries. As part of her assistantship with the Digital Library Program, she has worked on various stages of the IN Harmony and Indiana Authors projects. She has a bachelor's degree in Hispanic Studies from the College of William and Mary. Liz hails most recently from Fairfax, Virginia, although she spent much of her life growing up overseas. She enjoys learning languages and playing ultimate frisbee.
