There are many benefits to joining the American Library Association as a student. An early introduction to ALA's programs, activities, and networking opportunities means having a professional headstart. You can participate in all of ALA's discussion groups, as well as getting involved in programs and activities on a campus level. In addition, ALA can provide scholarship money while you're in school and has a free job placement service at ALA conferences. Plus it looks great on your resume! To join the student chapter, simply download our membership application, or take one from the ALA-SC mailbox, located in the SLIS hallway on the far right side of the mailboxes. Fill out the application and return it to the same mailbox with a check/money order for $10 or you can turn it in at meetings. Once you've joined the student chapter, you can join the national ALA by applying on-line. By joining the national organization, you are eligible for all the benefits offered to full ALA members (at a fraction of the price!) as well as becoming eligible to run for the student chapter executive council and much more! If you have questions about membership, contact any member of the Executive Council. To find out more about the duties of the Executive Council, view our constitution. To join the ALA-SC listserv, you must first submit your ALA-SC membership form and dues. ALA-SC membership is confirmed by the Secretary.
