The NMRT Footnotes Committee is seeking contributions for their upcoming August issue. They are particularly interested in finding writers to cover all the various NMRT events at Annual, but other article ideas are encouraged as well.
If you are going to the conference and plan on attending any of the many NMRT events - or other ALA events – consider writing an article for Footnotes. It’s a great way to share your experiences with others and get your name out there!

Our very own faculty advisor Mary Popp receives 'My Favorite Martian Award'! Taken from http://www.ala.org/ala/pressreleases2008/april2008/martian.cfm. Mary Popp, public services librarian, Herman B. Wells Library, Indiana University, Bloomington, is the 2008 recipient of the Machine-Assisted Reference Section Recognition Certificate, also known as the "My Favorite Martian Award." The Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS), a section of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), administers the award. It is given to an individual to recognize excellence in service to MARS. "Mary, for your dedication and service over the years, we are pleased to award you with the 'My Favorite Martian' award," stated Mary Mintz, MARS Section chair. "The MARS membership cannot thank you enough for your contributions and leadership." The certificate will be presented at the MARS Chair's Program, "Is Face-to-Face Reference Dying," 10:30 a.m. to noon, on June 29, during the ALA Annual Conference held in Anaheim, Calif. National Library Week is in full swing at SLIS, with your ALA-SC sponsoring events all week long! Get it on the celebration! Library Week Trivia Contest Entries due by 5PM in the ALA mailbox! Show off your mad searching skills (you are a librarian, aren't you?) and try your chance at winning one of FIVE Barnes & Noble gift cards! National Library Workers Day Today is National Library Workers Day, and in its (and their) honor, the ALA-SC has delivered City Bakery chocolate chip cookies to librarians at the Monroe County Public Library and departments across the Herman B Wells Library. Just a little "thank you" for their continued support, advice, and inspiration to the students at SLIS. A.M. Coffee and Donuts Stop by the SLIS Lounge (Room 030) Wednesday morning from 9AM until we run out, for coffee and donuts, brought to you by the ALA-SC. It's a mini-celebration of National Library Week and a pick-you-up because we know how hard you're working on those final projects - not to mention how hard it'll be to stay awake in your 9:30 class. Library Week Meetup at Nick's Join us upstairs at Nick's for an informal gathering to mark the end of National Library Week and the beginning of the end of your semester papers and projects. Get together with friends at a true Indiana University institution, Nick's English Hut. Bergis Jules Selected as RUSA Spectrum Scholar Intern |

The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) has selected Bergis Jules as its Spectrum Scholar Intern for 2009. Jules, a 2008 Spectrum Scholar, is pursuing dual master's degrees with the School of Library and Information Science and the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies, Indiana University at Bloomington. As an intern with RUSA, Jules will work for a year and a half with RUSA's vice-president/president-elect, Neal Wyatt. He will receive $3,000 for travel expenses to attend the American Library Association's (ALA) Midwinter and Annual Conferences. Read more here. |
