Officer Reports:
President: • Scheduling – Friday at 5 works the best for the most people • First meeting – next Friday (1/25/2008), Rebekah will send out the email when she gets the details • Send out a survey to the general list about what Friday of the month is best for everyone • Exec meetings also on an alternating week Fridays at 5 • Adhere to Robert’s Rules of Order during general meetings o Have an agenda
Social chair: • Survey of the membership about what social things, trips they want • Partner activities with male-heavy departments (history, law, computer science, math) o Cosponsor charity, poker night, speed dating • One social event per month in addition to the meeting that don’t cost a lot • Event ideas for the semester o Trips outside of Bloomington • Kraft Stone Age Institute - have a really interesting library dealing with evolution • Newberry Library – summer trip • Children’s museum in Indy • Might be good for SLIS parents if they can bring their kids o Trips in Bloomington • Historical society and/or Indiana Room • Bloomington playwrights project • Auditorium or plays • Meet and Greet on February 2 • Board game/game show night o Could be a fundraiser • End of the semester textbook sale • bowling
Treasurer: • $1160.50 in the bank • May help out the student to ALA – need to set aside some money for them o Ask the student at ALA to write up something for the newsletter o Ask Lisa Gardinier to speak at the meeting about her experiences as the ALA student representative and about the conference in general • Fundraising ideas – buttons, t-shirts, water bottles, tote
Vice President: • Newsletter o Put out more than one issue per semester • One page published bimonthly o Put the copies in the ALA member’s mailboxes o Put in more student work, hard reference questions o Resources for new students – places to hang out o List student blogs
• Facebook page o Work it into the constitution that someone should maintain the page • Carrie Donavan wants to be a guest speaker about information literacy • Career day/resume talk o Possibly cooperate with SLA • Information session about publishing • New student outreach – writing individual letters
Secretary: • Make board minutes available to the general membership • Publicize the website more – send out announcements about minutes
Agenda for the general meeting: • Introductions o Name, job, concentration, book you didn’t like • Position report o Pres – outings, summer activities o VP – newsletter, facebook o Sec – listserv, post minutes on website o Tres – fundraising ideas o Social chair – survey, meet and greet
